Uncle Chris Comes to Visit!

Uncle Chris came to visit us for a few days at the end of October and it was a blast! Wyatt, Scott and I had so much fun having him here with us for the normal day to day. We missed Auntie Katie and wished she could have come too! Chris is such a fun Uncle, always playing with Wyatt, feeding him and carrying him all around town so he didn't have to ride in that pesky stroller. He even found a way for Wyatt to enjoy cruising Target! Wyatt had a personal entertainer for a few days, and we were sure sad to see Uncle Chris go! I'm so excited that the next time I see my brother, he will be a Dad!! He's going to be one heck of a Dad, that's for sure!! Love you brother!

We spent Halloween again this year at the Stokes home! Noah and Danika are stellar party throwers and hosted a great night with pizza, salad, lots of kids and of course some candy! It was so fun to see Owen and Jude and all their buddies all dressed up. To top it off, Wyatt even decided to keep his costume on, with no tears! So, without much more...enjoy some pics of our Halloween night with our little bitty love monster.

I decided I wanted to blog again but the task of catching up from the summer was really overwhelming. So, I developed a plan that allows me the best of both worlds! I titled all the old posts I still need to catch up on, and when I have the time, I'll go back and get to them slowly, but that still lets me post new things and keep my 3 readers (thank you Duddy family) happy. You might wonder why not just skip over the summer, well I kind of like to be organized and I'm hoping one day this blog will be like a little story timeline for our family, so as long as the internet never crashes and blogger lives on, we'll always have our memory book at easy access! Drop a line and say hi...it's good to be back!!!

Birthday Pumpkin Carving Party

After our plane, bus and BART ride home from SD, we headed over to Resti and Debbie's for some pumpkin carving and cupcakes to continue my birthday celebration! We had a yummy dinner and tasty (and cutely decorated) cupcakes for dessert! Sweet Jude checking out the cupcakes!

Leave it to my husband to bring out his power tools for pumpkin carving. At least it wasn't the chain saw this year...remember that Sis and Jim?!?!

Bubs and Ann were the guest judges via iChat and picked Resti's pumpkin as the winner, and I would have to agree! Such a fun night, thanks for celebrating and spoiling me Zaballos fam, love you guys!

SD Birthday Weekend

My birthday this year happened to fall on the same weekend as my best friend Megan's baby shower! So, double bonus for me! Wyatt and I headed down to SD on Thursday morning to catch the tail end celebration of my Mom's birthday (it was Wednesday...happy birthday Mom!! Do you even still check my blog?!?) and Scott met up down there on Saturday morning. I took about a million pictures...mostly of Wyatt and Thatcher, so I'll try and keep it to a minimum on here. But unfortunately got no pics of the shower or all the yummy treats we baked up for it! Oh well, you can just use your imagination. I will say this, that Pioneer Woman sure knows how to make a good cinnamon roll! OK, here goes picture overload!

Upon arrival in SD, Grammie picked up Wy and I and brought along Wyatt's favorite car from his last visit to SD. If only I had captured his face when he first saw it sitting there waiting for him to ride. Though, I think this face is pretty telling of his excitement as well!

First order of business was a haircut. Scott is a major fan of Wyatt's short hair, so after having some serious long locks the past few months, we went with a short new do for a while.

Every morning when we call my Mom to iChat over breakfast, Wyatt first always asks for "Dog-Dog!" I was pretty excited to see what he would do when he finally got to see her in person, but turns out I think he likes her more from the computer screen, or at least with a screen door in between them.

This little guy is not so little! Thatch turns 6 months in a few days and I can't believe how quickly he's growing. He was super excited to play in his Jeep!

Wyatt was also excited to give him a push around the house. It was pretty cute!

Emili and I also like to do everything the same, so Wyatt and Thatcher have essentially the same wardrobe, hence the first of 3 nights of matching PJs pics!

Here's the one shot from my birthday night in SD. Dad and Grams made a delicious dinner, chili con carne, beans, rice and of course homemade tortillas! It was a treat indeed. Sis also pulled through with my favorite cake, yellow cake with chocolate frosting for dessert! I think I ate enough food for an army that night. Uncle Gary and Aunt Pat and Jason and Kristina came over to celebrate as well with our entire fam. A great night indeed!!!

And one more for good measure.

Sunday before we took off for the airport we went out to Bates Nut Farm to check out the pumpkin patch. I think the babes were still not quite able to appreciate all the fun, but it was a nice family outing nonetheless. Dad, looking out for his grandsons, lending out his hats!

The claustrophobic in me wanted to cry!) Looks like someone (ahem, Scott) has the magic touch.

Bartsch Fam Visit

One of Scott's old college roommates and his wife came and visited us for the weekend back in September. It was really awesome to spend a weekend with good friends and just catching up! Jenn is also pregnant so we got to chat pregnancy the whole weekend while the boys talked about trucks and tools, per usual. We had a great time hanging with them, going to bagels and coffee and even venturing into the city for a farmers market and lunch at Fisherman's Wharf! Thanks for coming Bartsch fam!!

Worst Morning Ever

There's not a whole lot that could ever prepare you for a morning like what we experienced September 19th. Truly, it was the scariest, most overwhelming, frightening morning of my life and all I can say is praise our mighty God who was with us that day and protected Wyatt from anything worse than a drop in his blood sugar.

Wyatt woke up around 7:30 on Monday the 19th. The day before had been fairly normal, hanging out at Jude's birthday party and ending the day with a bike ride downtown for some pizza. Wyatt hadn't really napped much on Sunday, so his later wake up time didn't catch me too off guard. I figured he was catching up from the day before. When I went into his room, he was immediately very snuggly, which was odd, so I thought maybe he was still tired, so we laid back in our bed for a few minutes and to my surprise, Wyatt fell right asleep. Again, I chalked it up to missing naps the day before, so snuggled up with him and got a few more zzz's. I woke up at 8:00 to him starting to stir and got up and started getting going for the day. I put Wyatt on the floor beside our bed like I normally do, but he didn't take off for the door on all fours as usual. Instead he just sat there, sucking his fingers and rubbing his head. Something was off. I remembered how the day before Scott had mentioned Wyatt was acting pretty lethargic during shower time, and wondered if this was what he meant. I stopped what I was doing and picked him up only to have him rest his head on my shoulder. On any other day I probably would have been so stoked for his wanting to cuddle, but the behavior prior just made his snuggles seem more out of place and odd than out of love. I started to get really concerned so I went to change his diaper, and as I was doing so, he started closing his eyes and before I knew it, his eyes were rolling back in his eyelids. I started to panic and mid diaper change let go of his legs I was holding up to finish, only to have them flop down on the pad uncontrollably. I finished getting his diaper on and picked up Wyatt and ran to the phone. He was nearly asleep again, or passed out or something, I had no idea. I called Scott at work and told him to come home immediately. Then I called my mom, because certainly she would know what I needed to do and before I ever got all the words out, "there's something wrong with Wyatt" she replied with, "hang up and call 911."

I have tears in my eyes just writing this out two months later. The next 3 minutes were the worst. I don't even know how to explain the fear and panic I was in. The 911 dispatcher was so patient and kind and I'm not sure she even could understand what I was saying between breaths of sobs and screaming out of fear for why I couldn't get my son to respond to me. I was pacing by the front door waiting for help and the sound of sirens had never been so comforting. Within minutes the whole brigade showed up, first the police man, then the paramedics then the firemen.

It was one of those moments where you don't really believe or want to believe what you are seeing. A gurney being rolled into your entryway, men dressed in full firefighter attire, paramedics attending to your son who is laying on the floor, mellow and reserved, clearly not himself, neighbors standing in the streets wondering what is going on...all while you are standing frozen in the midst of it all, wearing nothing but the clothes (or lack their off) you slept in the night before, so discombobulated that when they ask for your son's Kaiser card, you bring them his immunization card, or when the phone rings the firefighter has to answer for you and let you know your husband is on the line.

We rode to the hospital in the ambulance. Scott followed behind in his truck and on the way there, one of the medics discovered Wyatt's glucose levels were at 41. At the hospital they admitted us to the ER and from there our stay turned into hours of waiting for doctors and unsuccessful blood draws. We learned that a normal blood level should at the lowest be around 80. Wyatt was slowing starting to regain his spark, but was still pretty mellow. He slept and let us hold him. We were eventually moved up to Pediatrics and asked to stay the night so they could monitor Wyatt and try to run some labs. However, after over a dozen unsuccessful attempts at a blood draw, we asked they stop trying unless it was guaranteed to work. It was torture holding Wyatt down and watching them poke him like a pin pad. Due to his slight "chubbyness" and small veins, the blood draw was apparently impossible. We asked that they stop and his doctor came up with a plan B.

Seeing as no labs were done, it was hard to say what exactly caused his blood sugar to drop so low. The doctor thought it could have been that he was fighting a bit of a cold combined with not eating a ton the day before. Her best case scenario was to chalk it up to a fluke incident, but requested that we test his blood for a week to follow.

The next morning we were able to go home and it was a welcomed discharge from the hospital, and the worst 24 hours I'd ever experienced.

A big thanks to all our family and friends for your prayers and sweet texts, calls and emails during those few days. It was a blessing to have family so close and willing to travel to be with us. We appreciate you all and are so thankful to have you in our lives!

Jude's 2nd Birthday

Sweet Jude turned 2 on September18th! He loves Mickey Mouse, so he had an awesomely themed Mickey party, complete with a bounce house and all! We had a lot of fun getting to hang with everyone for the weekend and celebrating this little man!

Bakersfield Girls Weekend 2011!

Incase you didn't know, Bakersfield is the place to be! Back in the middle of June, Danika, Owen, Jude, Wyatt and I piled in the car and headed down to Bako for a few days of fun in the sun at the Haddon's wonderful home! The warm weather was a welcome sight after the rain we'd gotten in Northern California in June. It was such a fun trip full of great company, yummy food and lots of laughing and staying up late! The kids had a blast swimming and playing all day long, it was fun to see them all together! We even got to go pick fruit and bring home some deliciousness to share with the hubby's who missed us so dearly! :)

Three Years!!!

My sweet hubby and I planned a super fun long getaway weekend to SLO and SB for our three year anniversary this past May. Unfortunately for us, the timing fell right at the peak of my 1st trimester morning sickness and fatigue...but, who says you still can't have a little fun even when you feel like curling up in a ball and puking your brains out?!? TMI?? Sorry. Anyhow, he was the best and so sweet and took lots of naps with me, was so patient, and just the best. I think his wallet made out the best that weekend, as I kept turning down all invites to shop shop shop...hmmm, I wonder if I could get a rain check on that now?!?

Said goodbye to this little guy for the first time ever for more than a few hours! That was crazy, but he was in great hands with Pops and Grammie!

We got to spend Thursday night with Brad and Sara and that was SO much fun! They had picked up Thai Boat for us and my oh my it was delicious! Apparently this pregnancy my body craved Thai Boat, with Wyatt, not so much!! Our visit was short, but still so wonderful to see such great friends! On Friday morning while I was doing this...

Scott was doing that! See what I mean?! So patient, he entertained himself while I took my morning nap on the Osborne's couch!

When we finally made it to Santa Barbara and our cute little hotel, we rested (a lot), strolled around town, grabbed some food, walked around a farmers market, rode our bikes and saw a movie one night. It was perfect. So relaxing, the best weather and my favorite person in the world!

Zaballos Family Weekend

8 Months

So back in April when we got the big surprise that baby #2 was on its way, our little Wy guy was 8 months old. He's almost a year now and its crazy to look at all these pictures and see just how much he's changed in even 3 months. Baby #2 took us by great surprise, but we are pretty stoked and super excited to meet this little one! Here's Wyatt in all his glory at 8 months, he brings us so much joy, we just love this guy!

Thatcher is Here!

The whole fam was able to be there for Thatcher's birth on April 30th, 2011! It was a wonderful day and so exciting to finally meet this little peanut!!! He's the best!

While we were in SD we got to spend lots of time with family and friends. It was awesome! Wyatt loved getting to hang with his cousin, even if he was still just a sleepy little fellow!

Weekend Project

(please note the motorcycle helmet and gloves...Scott needed to buy a special drill bit from Home Depot, so the obvious choice was to jet on over on his bike, duh.)

Our weekend trip to bagels and coffee was extra fun this weekend. Uncle Brad was in town so he was able to join us, and Wyatt rode in the baby backpack, which he LOVES, and Scott also loves, so it really works out well. Our house progress is coming along really well, we're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel (maybe literally if you consider the front door a tunnel). Scott replaced our front door, and boy did he do a great job! It is so cool and pretty and we love it! We especially love all the light that shines in the hallway now. I wish I had taken a before shot, but I guess I wasn't totally thinking that far ahead. Just needs a few coats of paint and we'll be set! One of these days I'll get around to taking pictures of all the progress...one day.

Speedy Zaballos

Scott found a pretty sweet bike trailer for Wyatt to cruise around town in and it arrived this weekend! We were so excited to take him out on our bikes because it's something we both enjoy doing and hadn't been able to do it in sometime! I was a bit rusty on my cruiser (thankfully no run ins with the asphalt though), seeing as its the first time I'd been on in like a year or something, so I left the trailer-ing to Scott!

Ready for the test ride!!! Good one, huh?? Idea compliments of Scott. Not to worry this was just for kicks, it is a bicycle trailer, not a motorcycle trailer!

One cool thing about Pleasanton is that it is not lacking in the parks department! We rode up the street a bit and found this cool park with lots of swing, slides and a teeter-totter. The latter was short lived, because I apparently am that motion sick prone, that the teeter-totter made me sea sick. Cool. Anyhow, it was a fun fam day at the park. Wyatt really liked going down the slide with Scott. Must have felt good to feel the wind blow through those long locks on his head. HA!

Date Night

Remember how much fun we had out for Scott's birthday?!? Yes, well, we decided not to make that an every six months occasion. The hubs made plans for a sushi date night last Friday and if you know me at all, you'd know that's like the best treat ever. We even brought home some Coldstone to enjoy with our wonderful babysitter...thanks Grammie!!! I love this guy.

Grammie came to town for a few days last week and it was the best treat! We got to do lots of fun things and go lots of fun places and have lots of fun girl talk and it was just wonderful. We spent Sunday in the city for shopping, lunch and some Starbucks of course. On Monday and Tuesday we played all around Pleasanton, going on walks, shopping at the mall, strolling around Target and even checking out paint samples at the paint store. It was a super special few days with Grammie, thanks for coming Mom!

You won't find this toy at Target, that's for sure. Last week Scott brought home a new motorcycle to join the 4Runner and the collection of bicycles, gas powered tools, saws, mini bikes and other fun things currently occupying the garage. He had the go ahead to find a motorcycle after some long conversations, and I must say, he promptly found one! It's a really cool (I'd say cute, but I know no guy wants their bike described as "cute") motorcycle and he has really been enjoying riding it. Let's just say I'll never have to take a quick trip to the store anymore, he's all over those errands now. Lookin good hubs!!!

We went to Home Depot to order some blinds (only to find out we missed the sale by two days and because we like to save money, we'll now be waiting another 2 weeks for them to go BACK on sale before we order them...if you've seen my house, you'd understand the "what's another 2 weeks mindset"...anyyyhoooo, longest parenthesis ever) last week and this little guy was very intrigued by the place. Sensory overload?? Maybe. Don't let that little face trick you though, he was REALLY enjoying taking the turns around every aisle on two wheels with Scott. They (are) two peas in a pod.

Wyatt and I had our first play date with his little bud Noah and his mom Steph. Steph is married to Conor, who is one of Scott's good friends from high school. They had Noah two weeks before Wyatt was born and they had waited to find out the sex of the baby, so when we learned it was a boy, we were pretty excited for these guys to get to know each other! We met up last week at a park halfway between us and had a picnic lunch and lots of fun strolling around the place. The boys were so cute together and it was a lot of fun for me to hang with Steph! We can't wait to do it again!!!

The Birthday Week

My sweet hubby turns the big 2-8 tomorrow, but we've been celebrating him since Thursday, and its been quite the fun few days. He's just the best, he really loves us and my life just wouldn't be complete without him. Here's what we've been up to!

The fun started Thursday night with family dinner on St. Patricks Day with the traditional corned beef and cabbage cooked up by Chef Debbie. It was a tasty treat, and I felt a little bit Irish after eating it!

This was the best group shot, minus the birthday guy himself, that we got!

We finished off the night with some yummy cake and ice cream. I, of course ate everyone else's frosting and then felt sick. Typical.

The next night Scott and I went on a date minus the munchkin. It was part of his birthday celebration, but also just part for our marriage. What a treat that was! We got to sit at dinner for over two hours and just talk, uninterrupted or sidetracked, which was so great. The waiter thought Scott was turning 20 when we mentioned we were out for his birthday! Hilarious. Then he apparently thought I was some sort of cougar, because he pegged me at 25. He about died when we told him our real ages AND that we have a 7 month old. Classic.

We dropped Wyatt off for a night at Grammie Debs and Papa Resti's and that little guy didn't even notice we were gone! Thanks for taking him in Resti and Debbie!

We ended the night strolling around Walnut Creek and of course reading magazines at Barnes and Noble. For a split second it felt like a good old Friday night back in SLO.

Then, on Saturday, Scott wanted to ride Go-Karts at this indoor Go-Kart Race course. It's not your average Family Fun Center Go-Kart ride either. These things were flying around the course and it was pretty awesome to watch! Resti and Noah joined him on the course for some serious race competition!

Wyatt and I had a fun adventure getting these snaps taken at Costco yesterday. Somehow the lady wanted me to hold him up in front of the white screen, not get my hands in the picture, keep his fingers out of his mouth (clearly a challenge for this guy), and make him hold still while looking at the camera. Umm, yeah. After four or five unsuccessful rounds of me saying his name, (which resulted only in him looking over at me not straight ahead into the camera), I politely suggested if she just could clap her hands he'd most likely look up and smile. Well, the nice gentleman at the Membership counter came over and did a little jingle with his keys above photographer ladies head...and thank you very much Mr. Membership man, we got our passport picture! Looks like we'll being seeing you this summer, Cancun!

A Day with Pops!

Wyatt and I got the totally awesome treat of spending a whole day with Pops last Thursday! He had some business to do in the city, so we made plans to grab breakfast and then later dinner with him after his meetings. Well, things got even better after we found out the meetings had been cancelled and that we got to hang with Dad the entire day! It was such a treat and wonderful surprise for our little week. Thanks for hanging with us Dad, Wyatt loves you! And thanks Mr. Unprofessional Business Guy for canceling your meeting with my Dad while he was in flight to SF. Made my day!

This was pretty hilarious. When Dad got in the car he offered to drive, but inspector Wyatt wasn't going to let just anyone in that drivers seat. He kept his head turned and facing Pops for a good 10 minutes without moving, intently studying Grandpa and trying to figure out just who was driving him around town.

Thankfully, once we got home and got Wyatt out of his car seat, he was all smiles for Pops!

We ended our day with some oh so yummy sushi for dinner in celebration of Dad's birthday! Followed of course with some yellow cake with chocolate frosting and vanilla ice cream back at home!! We love you Dad and really enjoyed our day with you! Happy belated birthday!!!

Scott, Wy and I got to spend an amazing, way too short weekend with Sister at the beginning of March. It was a weekend much needed, some quality sis time full of shopping, chatting, eating and of course some snuggles for Wyatt. We got to take BART into the city for a day of lunch and shopping thanks to my sweet hubs. We loved having Auntie in town for the day to day fun and miss her terribly already. We can't believe the next time we see her it will be for Thatcher's arrival!!! SO crazy. Thanks for coming Sis, and thanks for sharing your wife for the weekend Jim, we missed you!

Bass Lake Winter Full House

Our first annual winter trip to Bass Lake with Scott's college friends was a blast! We couldn't have picked a better weekend, as it snowed SO much while we were there! It was the perfect amount to play in, the perfect weather for snowboarding for the boys and the perfect snuggle by the fire girl talk weather for the wives. It is always so much fun getting together with these friends, they are all wonderful and so special to us. Thanks everyone for making the trip and for loving Wyatt so much. We can't wait for the summer fun, with lots and lots of tubing, skiing and wake boarding!!

We flew home Monday afternoon on a pretty empty flight, so Wyatt tried out sitting in his own seat. (Don't worry Grammies, I held him for all but the 5 minutes he was playing in this seat!) AND...we were greeted at the airport with a wonderful Valentine's Day treat from the hubs. Notice the name of the candy?!? Clever, huh?? I'll keep him.

We lucked out with the weather this trip to SD. It was 75 degrees and sunny the whole time we were there which was amazing!!! (Not amazing = the scoop turtle neck very warm sweater dress I brought for the baby shower...hot.) Thanks to Auntie Katie, we got some fun shots of Wyatt enjoying the weather...and a few other fun things like sweet potatoes and Bailey!

Ahh it was beautiful at the beach. On Monday, my Mom, Katie and I took Wyatt to the beach to swing and feel the ocean. He LOVED the swing.

A Shower for Thatch Man

This past weekend (thanks to an $80 roundtrip ticket to SD) Wyatt and I went down to SD to throw a baby shower for Sis with the amazing help of both my sister in law, Katie and my new friend, (hi Mal!) Mallory. It had been a fun couple months of planning via email and phone calls, but way more fun actually getting to put everything into play and watch it all come together. We had a lot of fun together and I think the party was a hit. Check it out!

Saturday mornings are my favorite. We get up around seven, feed the little munchkin, I run a brush through my morning hair mess, throw on my Uggs & leg warmers and brush my teeth while Scott gets Wyatt all bundled up in his stroller and we head out for a morning walk to Noah's Bagels and Starbucks. We always get the same treats and yum, I can almost taste them now, and we get to sit and chat and enjoy the morning. We walk home just in time to put Wyatt down for his morning nap and then begin our weekend project. Since we're pretty much done with all the bedrooms and master bath, we decided to begin work on the family and living rooms. This past weekend our big project was the fireplace!

Way better than I ever did, that's for sure! Anyhow, we are all so excited for her and Jimmy and can't wait for Thatcher Ace Robeson to arrive. He's due April 30th, but with our family track record on due dates, we're guessing he'll be here right around good old tax day! Wyatt is sure looking forward to having a new bud to play with! A Real Picture

I thought to myself one day, pretty much every single picture I've taken of Wyatt has been on my iPhone. I was pretty stoked when I got the phone because the camera was sooo much better than my previous LG (I still love you Verizon) camera phone. I thought, awesome, I'll take all my pictures with this thing! Well, that was cool and the editing apps were (still are) fun, but sometimes its nice to have pictures from a real camera to make books or prints from. So I set my mind on investing in a nice camera...thanks in part to seeing pictures from Zach, Chris and Katie and the latest from the Millards. I was inspired.

Well, Christmas had already come and gone, my birthday is still too far away, my monthly fun money wasn't going to cut it, and seeing as my day job doesn't pay, I was coming up a little short on the funds for this new camera. So, Scott gave me the challenge to sell a bunch of stuff we had sitting around the house that we'd been trying to get rid of and that money could go towards our new camera. Thus, I met my friend Craigslist and we began the selling spree. In the end I raised almost all of what we needed and on Monday, the UPS man delivered the newest item I'll be flashing all up in Wyatt's face. I bet he can't wait!

I might try to keep it to a picture a day on this thing so I don't lose readers out of boredom from seeing my son's face. Wait, I just said lose readers, like this is some highly traffic-ed blog. HA. Anyhow, now that I'm caught up, I hope I can post more and about more things other than the new little man in my life, though he is pretty wonderful, but so is my husband and families and friends and life. So, here's to you 2011.

I'll leave you with my first favorites on the new cam. Scott's already the pro at using the thing, he read the manual and all. I just started snapping, and am no pro...yet. There's still time.

New Year's Eve Date in SF

Scott, Wy and I took a little day trip to the city for lunch and shopping on New Year's Eve. It was awesomely fun and a delightful way to end the year. We had a great time just strolling around our favorite shops, sipping some Starbucks and of course eating some yummy food. Scott made a pretty funny video trailer of the trip that if I'm savvy enough, I might be able to get on this blog...we'll see. Blogger already told my last post I'd exceeded the picture limit?!?! Excuse me for trying to catch up blogger!

I guess I'm that savvy...the picture thing, that's still a bummer though...more on that later.

Christmas Vacation

Christmas this year was a total blast with Wyatt and our fams! We celebrated with Resti and Debbie before heading down to SD. Wyatt loves hanging with Papa Resti and his kisses from Grammie Debs!!! Thanks for all the great treats guys! Here's a picture story of our Christmas!

We went to SLO in November to visit Brad and Sara for the first time since Wyatt had been born. Seeing as the last time they saw him he was one day old, it was fun to see them again in a much less chaotic environment than oh you know, birthing a child! The weather forecasted rain all weekend, but the sun prevailed and Sar and I got to do some serious shopping while the boys tinkered on bikes. Bum out, Scott caught some stomach bug so Sunday was cut a bit short, but it was still so much fun to hang with them!

I couldn't not take Wyatt to a Pumpkin Patch for his first Halloween!! But, maybe I couldn't of. I mean, he was totally thrilled...right. Oh well, maybe next year he'll be a little more into it. Hey, it was a fun outing for Scott and I! Later we stuffed him into his awesome pumpkin costume thanks to Grammie, and headed over to the Stokes for a little dinner and trick-or-treating. I was a lucky lady this year. I got to go out with two men for my birthday! We (obviously) went out to my favorite sushi restaurant, ate yellow cake with chocolate frosting made by hubs himself and rented a movie that we fell asleep to 30 minutes in. It was perfect. Most people write birth stories, oh, I don't know, days, maybe a few weeks after giving birth. I waited five months. That's cool too right?? Not that I haven't wanted to, and not that I really haven't had the time (I am blessed with a child who LOVES to sleep) I guess I just never did it for whatever reason. I'm probably not going to even TRY to catch up on the past five months of wonderfulness; those memories are tucked away in my heart (and if we're being honest, you've probably seen the pictures on FB anyhow) and for time's sake, we'll just go from here. So, you ready?? Sorry if this becomes TMI...you might want to just wait for some pictures to look at!

August 14, 2010:
Scott and I said goodnight to Brad and Sara around 10:30 p.m. and went to our "room" which at the time was the family room. Oh the life of remodeling your home. I'd been pretty tired the previous couple days, but other than that felt totally normal. I hadn't felt any signs of labor and was convinced we were going to have a sweet weekend hanging with friends. At 2:30 a.m. I woke up to use the bathroom (normal middle of the night pee) and immediately went back to sleep. I had gotten pretty good at walking to the bathroom (which isn't too close) with my eyes closed and no lights on. At 4:00 a awoke again, this time with a gasp because I felt like I had just totally wet the bed. Not too unbelievable since I always pee in the middle of the night, but sort of surprising since I had just been to the bathroom. I lied there for a few seconds and tried to decide if I had just peed or if maybe that was my water breaking. I had remembered from our birthing class that only like 20% of women's water breaks on its own. Was I that 20%?? I decided to go back to the bathroom and see if I could determine what was going on. I'll spare you some of these details, but I was pretty convinced it was my water breaking so I ran back to the bed and woke up Scott. I remember that moment so distinctly. I said to him with my voice shaking, "Scott, (shake on the leg, cause he's a pretty heavy sleeper) I think my water just broke." Well, that pretty much woke him up from deep sleep. He shot up and I remember sitting there with him thinking, this is it, Wyatt is coming. OH MY.

After calling the hospital and packing my bags (that was on my to-do list for the following week...oops) and Scott installing the car seat, we woke up Brad and Sara and apologized for the hiccup in our plans, but it didn't look like we were going to make it to Farmers Market that morning, as we were headed to the hospital. Sidenote: Brad had totally called that I was going to go into labor while they were in town. What are the chances?!?

We called our families and checked into the hospital around 6:00 Saturday morning. At this point I was not feeling much different and was surprised to find out I was even having contractions. The girl next to us in the triage area was clearly further along in the contraction process and as I sat there listening to her cry and scream all while the nurse says to me, "Oh you just had a contraction, did you feel anything?" and my response being, "No, not at all," I thought, I got this, this is in the bag, that other girl must be a weenie. Dear other girl, I apologize for thinking you were a weenie...I had no idea what was coming for me.

My pretty awesome family members made it to Walnut Creek by that afternoon. They flew, drove from out of town, left vacations early, got work covered and came to sit and wait in a hospital waiting room for a really, really, really long time. Thanks guys, sorry I couldn't speed that process up.

My wonderful husband was pretty amazing throughout this whole experience. He showed off his skills from the birthing class and was the best breathing partner a girl could ask for. I made him work there at the end, but he never gave up or got frustrated or anything.

Since my water had broken and I wasn't having contractions they had to give me something to hopefully induce labor. It wasn't pitocin, but something else that I can't remember. Anyhow, it did it's job and contractions started. I was able to walk around and hang out with visitors until things started getting pretty painful. Again, my apologies other girl in the triage room. I was given something to take the edge off, because I was having trouble catching my breath between contractions. That helped for a little bit, but it sure seemed like the contractions were coming at a rapid pace. I think it was around 3:00 p.m. before they finally decided to check me. I was convinced I was going to be at a 8 or 9 and Wyatt was going to be here within a few hours. Wrong. I was at a 2. A 2! Miserable. Let's just say, when I found that out and realized it was going to be a long road ahead, I went on ahead and pushed that little nurse call button and asked about my friend, Mr. Epidural. I had been pretty anti-epidural during my pregnancy, but my goodness, that laboring was something else. Anddd, once I decided to go for it, the nurse told me it would be another couple hours before the anesthesiologist would have the chance to come in. So I labored on. That was a pretty intense couple hours. Painful, to say the least.

Soo, I got the epidural and truly in about 10 minutes felt like a new person. I was laughing again and talking to my mom and sister about who knows what, while Scott got a dinner break. Around midnight, I was checked again and was at a 8. They said it would probably be a couple more hours and that they'd check me again at 2:00. Scott and I decided to try and get some sleep, which we did for a couple hours. That was nice. I woke up at about 2:15 and the nurse came in at 2:30 to check me and announce, it was finally time to start pushing. Pushing. Wow. A whole other world of birthing that I don't know if anyone can prepare you for. My thoughts were it was going to be a couple pushes and were done...not so much. Two hours later, the nurse said it was just going to be minutes and she calls in the Doctor, who comes in, washes her hands, sits down, says to me, "OK Lisa, push," then once more, a push and wall-la! Hello Wyatt.

I skipped a lot of the gross details, mostly for sake of any pregnant friends or people who stumble upon this blog (hello sister). It was a crazy, painful, emotional, exhausting, life changing experience. But wow, what a miracle.

Change of Plans

The weekend of August 14th and 15th our awesome friends Brad and Sara had planned to come visit us at our new home. I had picked that weekend because my Padres were playing Brad's Giants in SF and we were going to go to the game on Saturday and hang in the city! We miss these friends dearly, and had plans for a fun filled, jam packed weekend of bike rides, farmers markets, shopping, eating and hanging out. Getting Ready

Dad had some work in SF in the beginning of August, so he and Mom came up to hang with Scott and I for a couple days. One of the highlights was setting up Wyatt's "crib," stroller and carseat! Thanks for the help guys!

The "crib." If you'll notice our house is still a bit of a construction zone, and Wyatt's room wasn't quite done, so this would be his bed for his first few days...or weeks.

A Day in SF

Scott and I had really wanted to take the newest trend, a la, a Babymoon, but found ourselves quite busy trying to get the house baby ready, taking birthing classes and seeing friends that our weekends got away from us and before we knew it, it was already August. I was convinced I'd be early since my Mom was early with all of us, and my Grandma was early with all of her kids, so as soon as August arrived, it was pretty much fair game for Wyatt to arrive! We did however, get to treat ourselves to a fun day in the city, something we hadn't done since living in Northern California! At this point of house projects and being so busy, Scott and I were just happy to get to spend the day together and have some good old fashioned fun!

Yes, this was as delicious as it looks! Peanut butter, hot fudge sundae in a chocolate dipped waffle bowl!!! Too bad I don't have a preggo belly to hide that in anymore!

Baby Shower Brunch

My wonderful Mother and Sisters-in-laws so kindly hosted another shower for baby Wyatt and I up in Northern California. It was a blast (minus a few pregnancy hot flashes!) and so cute and festive and tasty! They did such a great job with all the detail from yummy food, to fun games and awesome decor! Thanks guys, you are all great!! I didn't have my camera on me, so here are a couple shots thanks to Ann!

While in San Diego, we also got to be part of Jimmy's surprise birthday party! It was great to be able to be there for the celebration and see his truly surprised face. We love you Jimmy and are so glad that God chose you to join our family. You bring my Sister such joy and take such good care of her, I couldn't ask for a better brother in law.
